You may find it handy to archive all activity of your discussion forums in order to document work. Or you may want to save samples of good discussion board posts to use as examples for other courses, remember FERPA (you need to hide names).

Collect and Print

Using the Collect feature within Discussion Forums allows you to easily collect and print all threads in a forum. This is good for archiving activity within entire discussion forums.

  • Select Discussion Board from the Course Menu or a Discussion Board link within your course
  • Select a Discussion Board Forum
  • Confirm you have List View selected (located in the upper right corner)
  • Select Edit Paging… (located at the bottom of the thread list)
  • Enter the total number of items in the Items per page: text field
  • Select the Go button next to Items per page:
  • Select the upper most check box (located next to the red flag in the column header row) to select all posts
  • Select the Collect button
  • Select the Print Preview button
    • Your printer menu should appear automatically. We recommended printing to Adobe PDF if the option is available.
    • You can also right mouse click and select Save Page As and save as an HTML file instead of printing. For Mac users select the Control key and click the mouse to open the menu that allows you to Save Page As.

Print a Single Student Post

You can also print individual student activity for a particular discussion forum.

  • From the Control Panel
  • Select Evaluation
  • Select Performance Dashboard
  • Locate a student
  • From the Discussion Board column:
    • Click the number to get details for that user
  • Locate the Forum column
  • On the Discussion Board page for “name of student”, select the Title of a Forum to view the user’s threads
  • Select the Print Preview button
    • Your printer menu should appear automatically. We recommended printing to a PDF if the option is available.
    • You can also right mouse click and select Save Page As and save as an HTML file instead of printing. For Mac users select the Control key and click the mouse to open the menu that allows you to Save Page As.
  • Repeat steps above to view information for another user
