The Teaching Style settings allow you to adjust the appearance of the course. You have the ability to change and choose options for: the course structure, the course entry point, the course theme, the menu style, the content appearance,  and the course banner.


Teaching Style Customization


  • From the Control Panel
  • Select Customization
  • Select Teaching Style
  • 1. Select Course Structure
    • If you choose to use your Existing Menu structure continue to the next step

    • Or, select a predefined course structure from the options provided

Teaching Style Step 1b

  • 2. Select Course Entry Point
    • From the drop down menu select the first area visible to students when they access the course, such as a Module page or Announcements

  • 3. Select Course Theme
    • Choose to use the default visual theme or select a new visual theme from the options provided.

Teaching Style Step 3

  • 4. Select Menu Style
    • Style: Select either Text or Buttons for the course menu display
      • For Text:
        • Background Color: select the drop down menu to open the swatch color menu
          • Select a Color
          • Select Submit to save your color choice
        • For Text Color: select the drop down menu to open the swatch color menu
          • Select a Color
          • Select Submit to save your color choice
        • Use the Preview of your course menu to confirm that the background and text color combination is easy to read.

Teaching Style Step 4a

      • For Buttons:
        • If needed: select the Plus Sign (+) to open the Button Library
        • From the Button Library choose your desired options:
          • Button Type: use the drop down menu to select a type (Solid, Pattern, or Striped).
          • Recommendation: Solid buttons are easier to read
          • Button Shape: use the drop down menu to select a shape (Rounded Corners, Rectangular, or Rounded Ends)
          • Button Color: enter a desired color in the text box and select the Search button
        • Select a Button style from the library
        • Use the Preview of your course menu to confirm that the button type, shape, color, and text color combination is easy to read.

Teaching Style Step 4b

  • 5. Course Menu Display
    • Select a Default Menu View:
      • List View: displays the course menu in an easy to read list
      • Folder View: displays the course menu items with icons
      • Permit Both Views: Select the check box, this allows users to select their choice

  • 6. Default Content View
    • Content View: select the Icon and Text check box

Teaching Style Step 6

  • 7. Select Banner
    • Select Browse My Computer
    • In the Upload File window:
      • Navigate to and select a .gif, .png, or .jpeg image/graphic file
        • Note: using a graphics software program you can create course banner and then save the file in .gif, .png, or .jpeg format.
      • Select Open
