The Audio feature allows you to add audio files to Blackboard. The audio file will display to users within an audio player as part of a Blackboard page within a the course. Students will be able to: play, pause, forward, or rewind the audio using the player controls.

Tips for Adding Audio Files:

  • You want to make sure the files are short since the longer the audio file the larger the file your students will have to download in order to listen.
  • Include a transcript for the audio, the transcript will allow users who cannot hear the audio to get the same information. This is necessary in order to be ADA compliant.
  • Selecting Autostart means that the audio file will play as soon as the user accesses the page, this can cause the page to load slowly and students could miss important information.
  • The following file types are supported: .aiff, .asf, .mp3, .midi, .moov, .mov, .mp, .wav, .wma, .wmv. The recommended file types: .mp3.
  • Please note: students will need a specific audio player on their computer and/or a plug-in for their Internet browser in order play the attached audio file. MP3’s use any audio player.
