Instructors can add additional questions to Tests.

Random Blocks are groups of questions based on a set of criteria that can be presented in a random fashion.


  • From the Control Panel
  • Select Course Tools
  • Select Tests, Surveys, and Pools
  • Select Tests
  • Select the Down arrow next to the Test title you want to edit
  • Select Edit
  • From the Test Canvas page, select Reuse Question
  • Select Create Random Block from the drop-down menu
  • From Choose Criteria: (on the left)
    Note: you must select at least one pool and at least on question type to create a random block

    • Select a question pool from the Pool list
    • Select question type(s) from the Question types list
  • From Selected Criteria: (on the right)
    • Preview the a list of questions matching your criteria
    • If necessary, edit Pool or Question Types selection(s)
  • When satisfied with selected criteria questions, select Submit
  • A green confirmation bar appears: “Success: Random block saved. Edit number of questions to display and points(to close select the “x”)
  • Now, edit the number of questions to display and points:
    • Locate Number of Questions to display:
      • Select the number field and enter the number of questions to be drawn
      • Select Submit
      • A green confirmation bar quickly appears and disappears: “Success: Number of questions to display saved.”
    • Locate Points per question: (on the far right)
      • Select the number field and enter the number of points for each question in the block
      • Select Submit
      • A green confirmation bar quickly appears and disappears: “Success: Points updated.”
  • To add additional random blocks to your test, repeat the Random Block steps above. You can also create questions or create random blocks in addition to using random blocks.
  • When finished adding questions, select OK to return to the Tests page
