Do you need to replace a file in your course, such as a syllabus? It’s now easy to just overwrite the file so the latest version is available in the course and you don’t have to worry about having multiple versions of the same file within your course. You can overwrite files from within the Course Files area or from a content item.

Option 1: Overwriting Files in Content Collection

  • From the Control Panel
  • Select Content Collection and then select the Course Name to enter the files area
    • Or select the Arrow next to Content Collection to enter quickly
  • Navigate to the item you want to overwrite
  • Hover over the item and select the Down Arrow
  • Select Overwrite Item from the menu
  • The Overwrite File page displays
  • Select the Browse button to locate and select the new file you want to use to replace the existing one
  • Select Submit
  • The new file will now display when you access it

Option 2: Overwriting Files Attached in Content Areas

Please note: The original file name will display when you overwrite the file so you will either want to use generic file names or you edit the file name for the item. For example, I have a file named Spring 2013 and I want to overwrite the file with a file named Spring 2014. The Spring 2013 name will appear.

See Bb Instructor – Create/Edit/Delete Item for a tutorial on editing an item, and look at Edit Item.
